How To Survive In South Central?

Let me tell you a secret about how to survive in south central Los Angeles. People who live here are so incredibly intelligent, that they know what time it is. When it's 7 in the morning, it's summer, and when it's 3 PM, it's fall. They're very clever people, and they use this knowledge to their advantage. The thing is, they don't just tell you that, they DO IT!

The best way to survive in south central Los Angeles, is to never ever show these mother fuckers what's what. It's too easy to look around, realize that everybody has a problem, and then feel helpless. The truth is, that there is always someone more clueless than you, who needs to look around and figure things out for themselves.

So, why do we hear so much about how to survive in south central Los Angeles, when it's clear to everyone else? Well, simple really, because there is always something to be said about a place, and how it works. It's just a place. Now, I can see a car bomb going off and see children running for their lives, in the middle of a crossfire. I can see a mentally handicapped person on a bus, who obviously does not have a clue, trying to get off. And in the back of my mind, I'll always remember the words of a gang member, saying, "This territory is ours!"

So then, if we want to understand how to survive in south central, we need to understand the dynamics of gang life. Gangs are like families, but instead of doing things together, they do things individually. Like a family, they raise their kids, teach them, love them, and keep them safe. But like any other family, it has its own set of rules, which it operates by. The difference between this and any other kind of family is that, since the family is a functioning one, there is a chain of command. So any infraction, no matter how small, will be looked at and dealt with accordingly.

You might have a good time, and you might get high off the power of your energy, or maybe you'll stick to your solid rule number one, which is, don't break the rules. So if you want to survive in South Central, you better follow your rules. And make sure you have your extracurricular activities on tapes for everyone to hear. Cause it is not going to be your dinner table.
